Biography

Although they only attained the huge success of The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, and The Beach Boys for a short time in the mid-'60s, time has judged The Byrds to be nearly as influential as those groups in the long run. They were not solely responsible for devising folk rock, but they were certainly more responsible than any other single act (Dylan included) for melding the innovations and energy of the british with the best lyrical and musical elements of contemporary folk music. The jangling, 12-string guitar sound of leader Roger McGuinn's Rickenbacker was permanently absorbed into the vocabulary of rock. They also played a vital role in pioneering rock and country rock, the unifying element being their angelic harmonies and restless eclecticism.

    Lyrics
Turn! Turn! Turn! (To Everything There Is a Season) The Byrds music by Pete Seeger words adapted from the Book of Ecclesiastes by Pete Seeger To everything - turn, turn, turn There is a season - turn, turn, turn And a time for every purpose under heaven A time to be born, a time to die A time to plant, a time to reap A time to laugh, a time to weep A time to kill, a time to heal To everything - turn, turn, turn There is a season - turn, turn, turn And a time for every purpose under heaven A time to build up, a time to break down A time to dance, a time to mourn A time to cast away stones A time to gather stones together To everything - turn, turn, turn And a time for every purpose under heaven There is a season - turn, turn, turn A time of war, a time of peace A time of love, a time of hate A time you may embrace A time to refrain from embracing There is a season - turn, turn, turn And a time for every purpose under heaven To everything - turn, turn, turn A time to gain, a time to lose A time to rend, a time to sew A time to love, a time to hate A time of peace, I swear it's not too late!

    Lyrics
The reason why, oh I can say
I have to let you go, babe and run away
After what you did, I can't stay on
And I'll probably feel a whole lot better
    When you're gone
