The Black Ships are an American rock band who formed in 2006 after John Gill and Shane Sanchez, formerly the guitarist and bassist of Severe Severe, started rehearsing material with Jules Verne, with whom they had collaborated previously on the 2008 reunion album Break Up the Dance, with drummer Ben Patten.
