The origins of Sinkcharmer go back to 1993 when Paul was in college and in the band Psquelch. On summer break, he bought a 4-track and started recording tape after tape of songs under the pseudonym Alger Hiss. 1994 brought a move to North Carolina with girlfriend and sometime collaborator Kathleen. During this time Alger Hiss self-released 2 tapes (the Cootie Tape and I Love You Therefore I'll Give You Some Walnuts) which were distributed among friends and family.

Then the name changed. One day while on the way to work in Durham, NC, he spotted a license plate that read SNKCHRMR. It's likely that the driver intended this to mean Snake Charmer. It was misread and Sinkcharmer was born. The first Sinkcharmer release was a song called "Dog Done Died" on a Spare Me Records CD compilation called As Seen On TV.

Shortly thereafter (1996), Paul and Kathleen moved to Somerville, MA where Paul continued to record and release.

Now, located in upstate NY (near Saratoga Springs), Paul and Kathleen are farming. As such, there's less time for recording. Still...there will be another record someday.
