In 2000, Samir Moussa was in Costa Rica working as a translator for the documentary film The Hidden People. While filming, a sandfly embedded a microscopic parasite (leishmaneisis) into his arm. Samir was treated for 3 weeks at the National Institute for Health only to discover that there was an indigenous medicine the can kill the parasite in 3 days. Thus, Sandfly was born.
Drawing on his multi-ethnic background, Sandfly subtly infuses elements of his Lebanese and Colombian roots into his music, successfully filling a void in today’s pop-rock genre. The textures and melodies in Sandfly’s songs are mesmorizing. Every lyric has a message in it. Performing songs in French and Spanish gives Sandfly an international appeal as well. Sandfly is more than an artist, Sandfly is an experience.
SANDFLYs 'For The Sun (AOM)' featured on SANDFLYs debut CD 'SurpRISE' was rated the #1 song the week ending 1/08/06 on an internet radio station featuring independent bands at www.live365.com. SANDFLY is on the Best Sellers list at TowerRecords.com 2005-2006 and has been featured on 2 seperate CD compilations honoring songs for Peace both in 2002.
Sams new CD: SANDFLY 'Ambassadors Of Morning' has already sold hundreds in the international underground community reaching countries as far apart as Brazil, Sweden and Japan. This newest SANDFLY cd is a focused conceptual rock reggae expression of life and its tribulations and Sams own will to make positive change through music. Having just come from his family in Lebanon, Sam is ever more inspired to raise his voice to the world and his musicianship to the world stage.
