In the early hours on the 4th of February 1999, Amadou Diallo was standing outside his house in the Bronx N.Y. when the police fired 41 shots at him. They had apparently identified him as a serial rapist, and when they saw him reach into his jacket they shouted "Gun!" and opened fire. 41 shots were fired and 19 of those hit Amadou Diallo. What he was reaching for in his pocket was in fact a wallet. In response to this almost 30 artists from the hip hop community including Mos Def, Talib Kweli, RZA and Phaorohe Monch came together to show their respect. The album was released under the Rawkus label.
