Raheem Kashon was born in Winston-Salem, North Carolina to a singer with a nimble voice and a preacher with a gift for ministry. Like the both of his parents, he, too, possesses the ability to use the voice to tap into spiritual energy. It is his strongest belief that the ministerial and musical qualities passed onto him helped to guide him on the quest to find his truest expression. “The voice is a tool of God. It exists in a place where it can represent anything to anyone,” Raheem says. “If people are willing to listen to what it has to say over the pervasive voices of mainstream culture then we the singers and ministers can do our jobs.” Kashon derives his inspiration from a multitude musical genres and styles. Drawing inspiration from musical legends such as Nina Simone, Sarah Vaughn and Ella Fitzgerald as well as from his contemporaries (Lizz Wright, Bilal, Jessie Baylin, Brandy), Raheem Kashon has created his latest work, “The Growing,” as an eclectic labor of love. With his music, Raheem Kashon hopes to be a “voice to wield spiritual energy into transformative physical expressions.”
