Biography
Although nicknamed "Guitar Pete," the late Edward Lamonte Franklin was an accomplished blues pianist, as well as a fine guitarist. He was in his early thirties at the time of this 1961 recording of his debut album, yet his decidedly lonesome style was steeped in an earlier era, that of his native Indianapolis in the 1930s when Leroy Carr and Scrapper Blackwell brought an urban sophistication to country blues. Besides the self-penned title track, the album features Franklin's deeply personal readings of tunes associated with such pre-World War II blues singers as Carr, Bumble Bee Slim, Doctor Clayton, and Curtis Jones.
