S Baker was born and raised in a small town on the outskirts of Pittsburgh, Pa. He grew up around steel mills and smoke stacks in a town where everyone was a shift-worker. Hard work and strong family ties were a powerful part of his life in Western Pennsylvania. He worked in the mills, coal mines, and on the rivers, which are an integral part of life as a Pittsburgher, as a young man. Eventually, he served in the military, just like all of his family had done over the generations. It was at this point when he became aware of more things than just the everyday life in a steel town.
