Alternative rock band originating out of San Jose, California; the core members consist of Jason Hallyburton, Robin Signorelli, and Noaa Rienecker. After Jason and Noaa's former progressive metal band "Strobehead" took an indefinite hiatus due to an unforeseen absence of their bassist Danny Spiteri, they collaborated with drummer Elijah Stoll from another local band "Rockit Zombies".

Taking a new direction heavily influenced from 90s Alt/Grunge, Monstrauss is an up-and-coming group in the SJ music scene. In December 2009, they began playing their first shows as well as releasing a self-produced/mixed/recorded EP titled My Brain and Me on CD and cassette. In late-2010, the trio began recording again, this time at Toothless Monkey Studios in Redwood City. Due to personal and legal issues, the album (which came to be titled Thinktank) would not be released until October 2011.

Not long after the recording sessions for Thinktank were completed, good friend of the band Kennedy Applefield (a guest on the album as well) joined the already eclectic mix of musicians, adding an ethereal and atmospheric element to the group. However, the Thinktank release show would signal the end of Elijah Stoll's tenure in the group due to creative differences. With the leave of Elijah, 8:19 drummer/singer Robin Signorelli was chosen to fill the empty space, along with the addition of a full horn section consisting of Noah Sanche de Tagle, Alex Horwege, and Gabriel Perez.

Ever-evolving, yet only strengthening their eclectic grunge-ska mix (jokingly called skunge), Monstrauss is a powerhouse of sound, with an intense and always-enthralling live show.
