MoeDeLL was born in Portsmouth, Va. under the name Allen Simon. He grew up in Virginia Beach, Va. and The Outer Banks of North Carolina catching waves and fishing. Growing up he was surrounded by all genres of music from old country to rock to funk. MoeDeLL started playing guitar at the age of 9 and was influenced early on by Eddie Van Halen and all the so called "shredders". "I never could get my fingers to move as fast as those guys so after quite a few years of playing I leaned more toward the things I was better at which was songwriting and a more funk style of playing. I guess the guys that really get me off are John Frusciante, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, James Brown, and Blind Melon. There are the days that I want Deftones and Alice In Chains and then the next minute i want The Cure, Dinosaur Jr., and Primus."
MoeDeLL is the former singer/songwriter of the Virginia Beach, Virginia. based band Monkey In A Mansuit. M.I.A.M's 2002 release, “Set In Stone”, yielded two singles which received quite a bit of airplay on the east coast. In early 2003, M.I.A.M. took a small break to regroup. While in that process, MoeDeLL started playing a few solo acoustic gigs merely for the fact of not having a backing band, and by the year's end had done well over 200 shows on his own. MoeDeLL released his first solo EP entitled “The Facade”, in May 2004. On “The Facade”, he dives more into singer/songwriter with darker lyrics than had previously shown on any M.I.A.M. material which was more funk/rock. While the lyrics are dark and beautiful, the radio friendly format stays intact on “The Facade”. “This Time” is a stripped down acoustic song receiving airplay on radio and “Sensational” is also seeing airplay. MoeDeLL performs as a solo acoustic artist, and also with his 4 piece band from time to time. The shows take you on an emotional rollercoaster as he occasionally dives into his old funk/jazz ways from Monkey In A Mansuit, playing wah and various effects on the acoustic, and also turning out some great cover songs that you might not expect from him.
In late 2005, MoeDeLL started recording his next full length album, and was signed to Aquarium Records. Aquarium released the album, "Out There", in June of 2006. The new album is loaded with a diversity of acoustic songs and rock songs. MoeDeLL's cover of Blind Melon's "Toes Across The Floor" is included on the Blind Melon Tribute Album "Twenty Stories Below", and was released in December of 2006.
2007 and 2008 were mainly spent writing new material, playing solo shows, and forming the funk band Nelson Flavor. MoeDeLL's new album "Kairos" was recorded in 2009 and was released in January of 2010. 3 EPs are expected to be released in 2010.
