In 1979, Malcolm formed the very influential Josef K in Edinburgh, Scotland. They were arguably the first of 4 groups to make up the legendary roster of Postcard Records. Although recording much more, Josek K officially released only 4 singles 1 album (The Only Fun In Town). At About the same time, Malcom also co-produced singles for Postcard stablemates, Aztec Camera & Orange Juice. Josek K split in 1981 whereupon Malcolm joined Orange Juice for their most successful period: the Rip It Up LP & Texas Fever mini-LP.
