Formed on October 10, 2007, Mặt Trời Mới (New Sun Band) has made a deep impression on Vietnamese traditional music lovers not only within Vietnam. The band's performances combine both tradition and modernity, Vietnamese traditional musical instruments are played in harmony with modern orchestras. Nevertheless, the emphasis is on the traditional aspect, with solo performances showcasing each traditional instrument, such as the Thirty-six-String zither, Sixteen-String zither, Two-string fiddle, Pear-Shaped lute, monostring chordophone, etc.

Before October 2007, the band was known under the name of Red Sun, which was established in September 2005. After the departure of two members, New Sun Band was born with five beautiful girls: Thu Thủy, Hoài Phương, Minh Loan, Huyền Ly and Thu Thanh.

The name "New Sun Band" heralds a new image for the band - the harmonization of different bright colors in their costumes during performanes representing the different time of the Sun: the Red color - the sunrise, the Yellow color - the brilliance, the Orange color - burning, the Deep Blue - the sunset. These colors will represent the new style of New Sun Band.

Sense the uniquenesses of New Sun Band through the colors of their instruments, the bright and well designed costumes, the movement of their dances, the lyric of their songs and the melodies of the music.
