Born in Lome (Togo) on the west coast of Africa, Kodjo Senyo is a self-taught in music. From a family deeply involved in the traditional song of the Ewe (ethnic group in the south of Togo), Kodjo has grown in a environment where everything was about song; from the celebration of a birth to traditional ceremonies or funerals, music is always present. Later on, together with some friends, he forms a musical group with which he perfomed in Togo and neighbouring countries. He discovers that blues and jazz, far from being new music, for him are simply a different way of playing that traditional music. Apart from singing, Kodjo also composes. His themes, far from being a mixture of musics, are the result of the returning to the roots of music in constant transformation.; "when the root reaches the diaspora, there begins my music" he often says. Kodjo sings about friendship, love, tolerance and hope: the foundations of his ancestral beliefs.
