Biography
We’re in a cluster fuck of a musical generation. New Disco, 80’s inspired and synth driven electro pop, rap, pop rock, R&B, house, techno, dubstep, and fuzz-filled-classic rock-revival all coexist in emulation. The growth of technology in this generation has allowed for the progression and development of electronic-centered music. But where is the growth in the roots of Rock, where live instruments and tube-powered amplifiers had the power to move masses? Where is the development of a four-piece rock band waiting to hit you with wall of raw, live, yet thought-provoking energy?

Kiven seeks to fill this void. They have taken influences from a diverse generation of music and have created an inspired sound, based on the music that they and their fans all grew up with and loved the most; they are progress for Rock fans.
Hailing from Los Angeles, Kiven is energetic and multi-faceted. Truly priding themselves on their live performance, the band is full of energy, personal interaction, and creative adaptations of all their songs that culminate into a striking and spontaneous experience.
Formed in 2009, the band consists of Tyler Demorest (lead vocals & rhythm guitar), Matt Cohen (bass), and Danny Schnair (lead guitar). Each member has had his fair share of musical experience: Cohen, signed by the age of 16, had success in the hardcore metal scene as the frontman for the touring group ADORA. Through playing shows with bands such as Stick To Your Guns, Static Lullaby and Bleeding Through, he brings a certain live pulsation found in heavy music to the table. Demorest grew up playing in a post hardcore band out of Orange County as well, although he spent time drumming in Kattegat Sound, an Indie band engineered by Andrew Maury (Producer of Ra Ra Riot's The Orchard). Schnair with a classic, yet progressive rock and roll feel, has performed in numerous bands and gigged with Frankie Valli of The Four Season throughout his tenure studying studio/jazz guitar with Carl Verheyen in college. Former drummer AJ Novak brought a 360 degree approach to his instrument as he spent time touring with the pop rock band Disco Curtis in addition to studying jazz and popular performance under Indugu Chancellor (Michael Jackson's Drummer) in college.
The members of Kiven bonded and formed as a culmination of the rock music from an entire generation while embodying something fresh and new that is genuinely exciting and keeps the listener itching for what is coming next. “It all comes together from different influences,” Schnair explains. “We’ve each had to step outside of our comfort zones of what we know musically to compromise and become what we are today. Our music speaks highly to that."
In 2010, the group spent several months writing for their "Two In The Same" EP release. With no real sonic goal in mind, the group had to wrestle with about 12 songs before entering into the studio to record the final four. "We were really proud of what we had done and we can't wait to share the future with anyone who wants to listen," Demorest explained.
Now, nearly two years later, Kiven has returned to Sonikwire Studios in Irvine, CA and recorded their latest effort STEP, truly a product of maturation in the life of the band as musicians and personalities. "It is another step in our growth; another step in our songwriting process; another step in our maturity as friends and musicians," Demorest explains. The self-produced EP's five tracks range from the passionate and compelling "The Blur Ensues" to the hard-hitting tune "Release," each professing the elusive, exciting live sound that's such a rarity in studio recording nowadays.
"I think something that we can all agree upon and be proud of is that when we create our music, we really have to try to remove ourselves from the band for a second... and focus on writing music that we would love to listen to ourselves. I think that is what makes Kiven means so much to all of us," Cohen concludes.
