Kilburn is a neighbourhood in northwestern London, England where sole member Will Torrens (of Toronto quartet Left Of Here) lived for 9 months in 2002. Taking the name for his solo outlet, Torrens makes music spanning many genres: variety characterizes his output since returning to Canada.

Being exposed to classical, jazz, latin, and pop/rock from childhood plays a continuing role in driving Kilburn's output: "It's very hard to not want to make music when it's all around you. The jazz part of my radio-listening youth definitely makes me want to add a little more sophistication to styles like rock and electronic stuff."

Following a lengthy communication with Bruce Soord (of UK band The Pineapple Thief) from 1999, Will saw the possibilities of making one's own music decently at a time where tools for the amateur were scarce. It was this interaction that sparked his current passion for the recording aspect of the process: "I used to write songs and never think they would get played; now it's more like I'm struggling to write enough songs so I can spend time making them a reality!"

Will's ultimate goal for Kilburn is to share his version of 'music' with anyone who is either learning to make it themselves, or simply likes the rough edges of homegrown productions: "At the end of the day, whether you like it or not, I'm just glad you took the time to listen."
