John Wayne's Cage is a progressive rock band from Virginia Beach, VA founded in 2006 by Thomas Wilder (Vocals) and Jared Patch (Guitar). After being friends for ten years, the two artists decided to put their heads together to make music. Drawing on inspiration from bands like The Beatles and Pink Floyd, they wanted to start with a concept album. After long discussions mapping out the framework of the story, Thomas created, "The Weaver Family Portrait I: Heaven," the first in what would become a trilogy of stories. As the story was written, so too were the songs and movements that would eventually make up their debut album. Thomas adapted the story into lyrics while Jared provided the music and the intricate riffs that helped define the bands sound. With the story and music complete, Jared and Thomas decided to enlist the help of long time rhythm duo, Jamie Peterson (Drums) and Anthony Libengood (Bass) to make John Wayne's Cage a full band. The two were eager to add their energetic chemistry to what Thomas and Jared had written. The resulting collection of songs tell a story that teaches the importance of love, kindness, compassion, and selflessness—lessons we as humans, should all learn.
