Jim Sheppard is not only the founder of Nevermore, but has also played along with Jeff Loomis and Warrel Dane in Sanctuary in the late 1980's. After the split of Sanctuary, Jim was not satisfied with his music, so he decided to ask Jeff and Warrel if they didn't want to continue making music together, and Nevermore was born. The band Sanctuary was pressured by its recording label to change its musical style, switching from heavy metal to grunge, which was obtaining mainstream success at the time due to bands such as Nirvana.
