Ingeborg Selnes came out of nowhere, and now she's looking to be everywhere.Read More...
After a couple of years in the electro-pop outfit Harmonica, she was chosen to appear in the Norwegian Zoom/Urort-contest. And that was it. The pink tights and bling-bling necklaces were gone, and in came the classy dresses and pure pop magic. Ingeborg started focusing on her own songs.
Backed by her friends and boyfriends in the indieband Nomber5s, she released her debutalbum, 'The Zoo' on Bolibompa Records in May 2008.
After a couple of weeks on the albums chart (VG-lista) and playing live on nationwide television (God Morgen Norge), she performed at huge festivals (Øyafestivalen, Parkenfestivalen among others) during the summer of 2008.
"In my blog coverage of the Øya Festival, I unfortunately had to miss Ingeborg Selnes, an extremely talented Norwegian songstress, because we had difficulties with our photo pass. The least I felt I could do was feature her in this column, since she is unbelievably talented and I expect her to catch on whenever she gets her ticket to travel outside of her native land.
It's impossible not to point out how she shares similarities with fellow Nordic peers like Lykke Li, Frida Hyvonen and of course, Bjørk. But there's a gorgeously vulnerable crackling in Ingeborg's voice that is hard not to compare to Leslie Feist, as well as her almost jazzy inflections, which shake with perfect ease.
A new album called The Zoo arrived this year, and what d'ya know, Selnes has put four of the cuts up for download free of charge on her MySpace page. It's pretty short, clocking in at 1:22, but I feel "Jingle Those Bells" is the stand out, with its sparse arrangement consisting only of Selnes' soft-as-snow, unmistakably Scandinavian accent and a fragile keyboard just barely accompanying her. Mesmerizing stuff."
Ingeborg and her band started focusing on writing new songs. After touring around the country for some time, and writing new tunes, they went into Harrys Gym Studios in january 2009. Together with Bjarne Stensli, (who has worked with bands such as; Lindstrom, Harrys Gym, DeLillos, Ingid Olava and 120 days), they have now recorded a new album so close to pop-perfection, that you're not going to be able to stand still..
