Hey Young Believer is a three-piece analog/digital indie rock band from SF. They use piano, guitar, synths, programmed loops and live drums to blast out energetic tunes. They have claimed they will play anywhere, but you can mostly see them in San Francisco. They give away lots of free downloads and stickers. Hey Young Believer got started when Lilly Wolfson (keys, vox) and Alex Neuhausen (guitar, bass) met at Stanford in spring of 2006. Nick Shilling, the drummer, joined that winter. Alex launches midi bass-line sequences using a foot controller hooked to a PC laptop. Lilly plays a midi keyboard through Reason on a Mac.
Their name comes from the Rancid song "Black Lung Fever" from their album "Life Won't Wait." They claim that it's a saying that would preface some question calling attention to structures and rules in life that they take for granted, just because they've always been that way or because of something they've been told. According to Alex, the way they yell the line in the song, it's unforgettable.
