Biography

At the heart of Cafè Noir are Antonello Carta (aka “Anto”, Venice, 1978 – music and lyrics, arrangements, electric and acoustic bass and acoustic guitar) and Andrea Bettega (Treviso, 1984 – music, arrangements, electric and acoustic guitars). The first songs were written by Anto in September 2003 with the intention of releasing rivers of poison from an open wound, with voice, acoustic guitar, pen and enless sheets of paper. Sleepless nights brought surprising results in terms of quantity and variety of forms and sounds. At the end of the summer 2005, on the dissolution of his previous band “Re Indako” after almost ten years, Anto founded the Cafè Noir with Andrea Bettega (electric and acoustic guitars), Daniele Scarpa (drums and percussion), Isabella Scala (aka “Isa”, keyboards and voice) and Elena Libralesso (voice). The group started playing live immediately and in December of the same year they recorded their first three-track ep (produced by Anto and Alberto Rossetto for Groove Farm). For the first time, the sound of the band, originally acoustic, intimist and snug, began to show clear influences of rock. Although the ep never actually went into physical production, it brought the band their first radio play, their first interviews and their first positive reviews. In 2006 Isa and Elena left the group and were replaced by Alberto Barea (aka “Barlo”, guitar and vocals) and Patrizia Cavinato (aka “Patty”, piano and keyboards) and the sound of the band continued to mature and move progressively towards rock, funk, pop and blues with an incessant production of new tracks. In December Daniele also left the group. In 2007 the members of the group interrupted their live performances and with the collaboration of Igor Checchin (drums) and Andrea Comacchio (aka “Koma”, hammond organ) centred their attention exclusively on the pre-production and arrangement of their studio recordings. The short history of Cafè Noir’s has been marked by constant comings and goings: during the studio recordings in May Patty left the band and during the mixing in September Barlo Barlo left to seek his fortune in London. Anto and Andrea remain faithful to the original project and are on the look-out for new musicians...
