Caçarola Orquestra de Baixos is a bass sextet which explores the various musical possibilities and expressions of the instrument, both in it's eletric version and the traditional double bass.
Inspired by the french group L'Orchestre de Contrabasses, Caçarola was founded in 2006 with the purpose to arrange and compose music specifically for this formation, seeking for full results through the different approaches for the use of the bass.
As so, the bass is used sometimes as solist, sometimes united in suits, sometimes with percussive or harmonic functions and, of course, in it's traditional basis function.
Under the musical direction of bassist, musician and composer Flavio Lira, the mini-orchestra playing mainly arrangements of Brazilian music, but also other styles like jazz, classical music and contemporary music.
Caçarola is composed also by Ariadne Melchioretto, Bruna Buschle, Renata Cáceres, Fernando Schubert and Gustavo Slomp. All of then are egressed students of the Academic-Music field, which gives the group the necessary property to this audacious music proposal.
For now, Caçarola is releasing its first CD, in which the bass is the starting point for creating different interpretations and arrangements in Brazilian music and instrumental. Thus Caçarola Orquestra de Baixos aims at popularization of this versatile instrument, showing through original way the various languages and timbres that can be extracted out of the bass, contributing creatively to the instrumental music, as well as disseminating the work of young musicians and professionals in this field. The group aims to be an incentive for the formation of public and new audiences for this genre, as well as creating works of innovative and unique nature.
The repertoire includes instrumental arrangements of songs by Brazilian composers, as well as music of own authorship by the orchestra members. In addition to the instrumentations created in group, the arrangements are mostly written by Flavio Lira, the orchestra's music director, and the album features also two exclusive arrangements for the group written by the French contrabass player Thibault Delor, who integrated the L'Orchestre de Contrebasses for several years.
