Biography
The Black Artists Group (BAG) was a collective of jazz musicians as well as dancers, poets, and other artists formed in St. Louis, Missouri. Their music recordings would fall under the umbrella of avant-garde and free jazz. The collective was active from 1968 until the early 70's, but in the early 70's they relocated to Paris, and then again to New York. After splitting up, many of the musicians were still active in the New York music scene. Three of the saxophone players (Julius Hemphill, Oliver Lake, and Hamiet Bluiett) would later form the World Saxophone Quartet.
