Biography
The original lineup of Alta May formed in December 1998 after Marcus Pia (Anodyne/PLG) joined Denver transplants Garrett Shavlik (The Fluid/Spell) and Erik Roper (Cold Crank). The trio played their first show together in July 1999 opening for Love Battery and Tad Doyle's band, Hog Molly.

In October 2001, the band released their debut album, We As In Us, on Glazed Records, receiving airplay on college radio stations across the US, Canada, and stations in the UK, including BBC Radio 1 (John Peel Show). After receiving months of good reviews for WAIU and opening shows for bands like Mudhoney, The Catheters, Hot Hot Heat, The Apes, Jucifer, The Walkmen, The Thermals, McLusky, and Russel Simins, the band released their second album, Dark Days, in August 2003 on Glazed Records. Recorded by Jack Endino and Jon Ervie, Dark Days also received much airplay across the US, Canada, and in the UK.
Their sound has been described as a "head-on collision between the first Queens of the Stone Age album and Bleach-era Nirvana". Live, they pack a whole lot of energy and volume into short, sharp sets of high impact rock, with the trio sharing the vocal duties and harmonies alike.
In Spring of 2004, Marcus, Garrett, and Erik came to the amicable decision to have Justin Hallstrom take over bass duties for Marcus for logistical reasons. Marcus still plays music with Garrett and Erik in The Press Corps, which includes Dan Peters (Mudhoney) and Bruce Fairweather (ex-Mother Love Bone/Green River/Love Battery).
Alta Mays third full length, Take What Youve Found Here, drives through a wall of sound to reveal a work of well written, hook-laden songs. Catchy riffs and melodic vocals navigate through the sometimes heavy, yet dynamic soundscape. And after 7 years after playing as a band, Alta May decided to break up.
