Her current band is Cold Fairyland (冷酷仙境), a progressive rock band in which she plays pipa and keyboard synthesizers, and also sings.
Lin began playing pipa at age 4. She studied at the Shanghai Conservatory of Music, where she majored in traditional Chinese music and pipa, graduating in 1997.
She started her own band Cold Fairyland in 2001 with bass guitarist Su Yong. She also composes original music for various commercial projects and transcribes music (using MIDI) for computer games.
