Thanksgiving has always been my favorite holiday. Christmas usually gets all the attention, but Thanksgiving is way more lowkey and enjoyable. To me, Thanksgiving is all about the fundamentals. There’s nothing better than spending time with your family, eating as much as humanly possible, and passing out while watching football. With Turkey Day right around the corner we thought we’d put together some music to get you in mood for this great American tradition.

[mp3com-artist]The War on Drugs[/mp3com-artist]’ music is perfectly suited to driving around those sunny autumn afternoons. Managing to sound like a combination of [mp3com-artist]Bob Dylan[/mp3com-artist],[mp3com-artist] Bruce Springsteen[/mp3com-artist], [mp3com-artist]Sonic Youth[/mp3com-artist] and myabe some Tom Petty thrown in there, these guys excel at making good ol’ Americana rock. “Baby Missiles” is off of their new, outstanding album Slave Ambient.

[mp3com-artist]Peter Wolf Crier[/mp3com-artist] is more good autumn music. Powerful in their spare instrumentation, each element of their song carries weight.  “In Response” is the final track and a real highlight on their debut album Inter-Be.

Worldly troubadour [mp3com-artist]Devendra Banhart[/mp3com-artist] is always a little out there, but his sweet voice and tender guitar playing always manages to reconcile his experiments. His creativity is infectious, if nothing he inspires you to think outside the box. Perhaps he’ll inspire you in the kitchen and cause you to wind up with some new take on the classic Thanksgiving dishes. Also, his songs are short so we’re hooking you up with two.

[mp3com-artist]Message To Bears[/mp3com-artist] gives you some nice, relaxing folk music to wind down to after Thanksgiving dinner. You’re probably going to want something mellow so that you can just wallow in your fullness.
