The 2013 BET Hip Hop Awards kicked off on Tuesday, October 15th, and raking in a staggering amount of wins was 26-year-old rapper Kendrick Lamar. The Compton, CA native took home five awards: Sweet 16, Album Of The Year (for good kid, m.A.A.d city), MVP Of The Year, Best Collabo (for F—in’ Problems” with A$AP Rocky), and Lyricist Of The Year.

Not only was Lamar the star of the evening because of his awards sweep, his cypher performance was also a force to be reckoned with. The two-minute rap performance had Kendrick claiming he was the dominator of the entire mainstream rappers, and also dissed Drake in the process, spewing the lyrics “Nothing’s been the same since they dropped “Control” / And tucked a sensitive rapper back in his pyjama clothes.”

Speaking of Drake, the so-called “sensitive” rapper followed Kendrick Lamar’s lead closely with four awards, including Best Hip-Hop video and the People’s Champ Award. There’s been no commentary from Drake on the diss from Lamar, so we’ll have to wait and see what counter-verse he’ll come back with.
