As 2011 draws to a close, we’re wrapping things up by putting together playlists of our favorite songs from the past year. Here are my favorite free downloads we’ve featured this year, all from artists on teh rise with great potential for a successful 2012.

[mp3com-download url=”http://files.radio.com/downloads/time-based/sareen.mp3″ artist=”Sareen” song=”Pen Pal” expiration=”12/31/2011″ email=”none”/]

Still unknown Brooklynite [mp3com-artist]Sareen[/mp3com-artist] deserves more attention for his slick blend of hip hop, pop, and electronica. Don’t give [mp3com-artist]Childish Gambino[/mp3com-artist] a pass just because he’s funny on Community, dive into some quality songwriting with “Pen Pal.”

[mp3com-download url=”http://files.radio.com/downloads/time-based/holyother-touch.mp3 ” artist=”Holy Other” song=”Yr Touch” expiration=”03/31/2012″ email=”none” year=”2010″ label=”TRI ANGLE”/]

The Tri Angle label ruled 2011 with top releases from [mp3com-artist]Balam Acab[/mp3com-artist], [mp3com-artist]Clams Casino[/mp3com-artist], and [mp3com-artist]Holy Other[/mp3com-artist]. Download “Yr Touch” from the latter above – a dark lament for a relationship lost. No better preparation for winter than this.

[mp3com-download url=”http://freedownloads.last.fm/download/497676464/Trip.mp3″ artist=”Vacationer” song=”Trip” email=”none” year=”2010″ label=”Self-Released”/]

And on that note – here’s a chipper tune to balance the list out! [mp3com-artist]Vacationer[/mp3com-artist] are currently mixing their debut album, and what that drops…watch out indie blogosphere. With only “Trip” and ONE other tune available on the internet, you know these guys are saving the best material for their LP. Keep your eyes peeled on them in 2012!
