“Let It Go” Wins Best Original Song at the 2014 Oscars

Congratulations are in order for the team behind Disney’s hit movie Frozen: their anthem “Let It Go” for the animated film’s soundtrack won Best Original Song at the 2014 Oscars! Written by Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez, the married songwriting duo proudly (and humbly) accepted the award on March 2nd at the 86th annual Academy Awards.

Performed at the Oscars by Idina Menzel herself, “Let It Go” is one of the most successful original songs from a movie soundtrack in recent years. It beat out Pharrell’s “Happy”, U2’s “Ordinary Love”, and Karen O’s “The Moon Song” for the title. Perhaps what even made the performance more buzzworthy was the mispronunciation of Menzel’s name by John Travolta, quickly sprouting the meme #AdeleDazeem all over the Internet.
