Label of the Week – Narnack Records

Label of the Week

Narnack Records has become a home for a diversified group of musicians and artists since its beginning in New York City, 2002. Founded by Shahin Ewalt, The label grew organically out of Brooklyn’s underground music scene. It rapidly garnered a reputation for its ability to get new acts on track with artists like Coachwhips, Iran, Langhorne SlimThee Oh Sees and Restavrant, and is also known for its work with established bands, such as the legendary Lee “Scratch” Perry, The Fall, Guitar Wolf, and The Slits.

Relocating from its New York HQ to Los Angeles in 2006. Two years later the label received it first a Grammy nomination for Best Reggae Album, thanks to a collaboration with Andrew W.K. on Lee “Scratch” Perry’s album Repentance.

Narnack has recently released EP’s from Electric Flower and Garrett Pierce along with a full length album, Beat L.A.: A Benefit For Haiti.

With soon to be released full length albums from Garrett Pierce, Sundelles, Lee “Scratch” Perry and Electric Flower’s 10” EP II, Narnack continues its kinship with white lightning surrounded by sounds of thunder.

Garrett Pierce – Why, Oh Why

Bay Area songwriter Garrett Pierce pens words that peek into that same dark, yet optimistic place that Henry Miller and Leonard Cohen tapped into. His voice seems to soar alongside acoustic ballads or ‘dirgey’ rock songs with the emotional confidence of someone who has found his path after years of yearning. ‘Why, Oh Why’ is a track off his upcoming album, City of Sand, to be released this summer.

Electric Flower

Electric Flower, the visceral realist duo consisting of guitarist/singer Imaad Wasif and drummer Josh Garza, with their sophomore EP, entitled EP II, showcases the band expanding their sound beyond the rawness of their first EP to explore the dimensions of depth and width. Electric Flower are on a journey through a modern kaleidoscope of rock ‘n’ roll, transcending mainstream influence and incorporating strong minimalist elements into their modern psychedelic music.

Imaad Wasif – Go Insane

‘Go Insane’ is taken from a very special collection of songs from classic SoCal artists contributing to the ‘Beat L.A.’ Benefit For Haiti album. Performed by Imaad Wasif, the release sees contributions from the likes of Wall of Voodoo, XThe Germs and Gun Club as well as Crystal Antlers, Bob Bruno of Best Coast, Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist Josh Klinghoffer and indie rock noise duo No Age.
