Tuesday Night (Live)

On The Scene

You’ll need a Lear Jet and a pretty darn efficient social secretary to dig both of tonight’s featured shows in person. Or, you can just grab a couple of free MP3s from our catalog and chill in front of the TV (and tell your friends, “Yeah, I made both of those shows”).

Folk experimenters Akron/Family continue their ten-year odyssey as they headline our Tuesday Night Live: Countrywide bill, scheduled for a show tonight at The Hideout in Chi-town.

If you’ve ever seem them do a show, you know there’s no such thing as a static engagement for the family, currently consisting of Dana Janssen, Seth Olinsky and Miles Seaton. Everybody playing everything, from field recordings to tape loops to glockenspiels, promises to be the order of the night.

Here’s a cut from Ak/Fam called “Another Sky,” from The Cosmic Birth and Journey of Shinju.

Really, it’s just a short hop from Chicago to El Lay, right? The other side of the improvisational arc, where beats are supreme, is scheduled to happen tonight at Dim Mak Studios, the spot on Hollywood Boulevard where Remix Artists Collective (a.k.a. RAC) take flight with Comic Strips and Plastic Plates.

Here’s a video trip with the LA hipnoscenti that’ll explain it all better than we can.
