Prime Cuts Playlist: Tappin’ Our Shoes To The Funky Blues

Weekly Playlist

Our ramble through the MP3.com catalog looking for today’s Chicago Blues tunes (On The Scene: Chicago Blues) yielded a few other prime blues cuts that are begging to be heard. Let’s grab ourselves a trio of records and make ourselves a toe-tappin’ blues mix.

Bluesmix

Speaking of blues mixes, the band called Bluesmix are a funky little blues outfit from London whose songs Real Life and London Nights we’ve featured in the past as Free MP3s of the Day.

They’re good guys and they make a solid brand of head-bopping rhythm and blues, owing debts to early Fleetwood Mac and Alex Korner.

Lexington Blues

Lexington Blues are an Ottawa, Canada band that have been laying down the blues since it 1990 when they departed the hard rock outfit Swamp Ash.

Fronted by singer and guitarist Derek R. Audette (with Bill Bolton on bass and Wayne Tierney on drums), Lexington Blues play it straight, with no posturing, just solid blues music, thank you. This one, called “I Need Your Love So Bad,” comes from their album Live Off The Floor – The One Take Sessions.

Quickchange Bluesband

The blues be universal so we’re not surprised the Quickchange Bluesband come out of Breisgau, Germany. Just a little more than 18 months old, the band is, in their own words, “a sparetime project by professional musicians and ambitious hobbyist to bring the electrified Blues back to Frieburg im Breisgau, Germany, which once was a vivd center of the Blues in southern Germany.”

Pretty darn good for some weekend warriors, we think.
