Acting Like Heroes
Armed with crayons and acting like heroes, today’s Prime Cuts playlist asks the musical question: “What’s left of you when you work hard and die in the office?”
We picked Armed With Crayons out of a lineup ‘cuz we liked their name and we liked the name of their song: “If He Ticks, Clock Him.” Then we listened and liked their music: half punk, half thrash, half attitude (which makes them 50% better than most bands). Armed With Crayons are from the hills of Loveland Colorado, themselves admitting they’re all about “catchy choruses, upbeat songs and, of course, breakdowns.”
On the other side of the country — namely the balmy climes of Rochester, New York — we found “melodic hardcore” band Such Gold. Consisting of screamer Ben Koti, guitar slingers Nate Derby and Skyler Sarkis and a pair of Devons on bass and guitar, Such Gold are thrashing about on Mighty Than Sword Records these days.
They’re playnig tonight at the Bug Jar in Rochacha…should be a loud affair.
Acting Like Heroes are a four piece pop punk band out of Moscow (Russia, that is). Just over a year old, vocalist/bassist Sam Kuprianov, vocalist/guitarist Mark Gaidansky, lead guitarist and back-up vocalist Yegor Sakharin, and drummer Sergei Mordovchenko have one goal:
Turn influences like All Time Low, A Day to Remember and Four Year Strong into music they always wanted to hear, a blasting upbeat pop-punk with heavy riffs and energetic, positive vocals.
They’ve done their job and so have I. Time to leave the office!
