Spotlight on Austin City Limits: The Antlers

The Spotlight

The city of Austin has the reputation of being the main hotspot for indie rock in Southwest and as a result Austin City Limits is one of the premier festivals to check out the latest hot indie acts.

One of the exciting new bands coming out of the Brooklyn music scene are The Antlers. Going from Peter Silberman’s bedroom recording project to a more fully realized band these past five years, The Antlers have evolved into an expansive-sounding chamber pop outfit.

Their music has an airy feel to it, The Antlers‘ create music with a strong sense of emotion and atmosphere.  While at first it might seem spare, tracks like “Cold War” and “Uprooted” reveal themselves to be richly detailed and moving after a couple listens.

Another Brooklyn artist, albeit one of a very different style from The Antlers, Charles Bradley is a soul singer who brings raw vocal power to the stage.  Inspired to be a singer at a young age by James Brown, Bradley is a pure soul singer.

Head over to our Free MP3 of the Day post on Charles Bradley to grab an mp3 of his song “The World (Is Going Up In Flames)”

And while we’re on the subject of soul, be sure to check out the Fitz & the Tantrums Last.fm Discover studio session recording of their song “MoneyGrabber” (which we posted earlier as part of our ACL Festival Coverage)
