On Day 3 of our Hip Hop playlist we’re giving you a couple tracks that show two up and coming MC’s flexing their lyrical skills. Starting out we have Ohio native Stalley. His rap career began when an injury ended his career as a Division 1 college basketball player. Since then, he’s toured with Mos Def, dropped a couple hot verses on Curren$y‘s Pilot Talk, and was recently signed to the Maybach Music record label. “Pound” is an eloquent song about his own struggle to rise up, he leaves us with: “On this elevator ride skipping floors/ Trying to reach the top, then the structure falls.”
Next we have Charles Hamilton, who was born in Cleveland but raised in Harlem. Hamilton recorded an album titled This Perfect Life with Interscope Records back in 2009, but it was never released due to undisclosed reasons. Hamilton soon left Interscope and has pursued various side projects since then.
It’s a pretty common story these days. Getting screwed over by a major label has become something of a badge of honor for young hip hop artists. Hamilton has an undeniable talent though and I’m sure we will be seeing more of him soon.
