Free MP3 Download: The Return Of The Feelies

Music

The Feelies were a band that most people might not know much about now–or even back in the late ’70s, when they first formed–but their first album on Stiff Records, Crazy Rhythms, influenced a generation of musicians when it was released in 1980 including bands like R.E.M.

The Feelies went through several lineup changes and under different monikers in and around New Jersey and New York. They later remerged within the mid-’80s with a more solid lineup and released what I consider the best driving album ever recorded, The Good Earth, which was co-produced by bandmembers Glenn Mercer and Bill Million with R.E.M.’s Peter Buck.

The group was signed to A&M records by the earlier ’90s, but then disbanded. In the summer of 2008, they returned with a series of shows at their favorite venue, Maxwell’s, in Hoboken, New Jersey; they also did a show at Millennium Park in Chicago in the summer of 2009.

The band had been recording a new album that is now scheduled to be released in April of this year, and earlier this morning Pitchfork posted a free mp3 of the forthcoming new album
