This U.K. outfit the Wire is again putting the bite back into post-punk. The influence of the band’s dark, driving energy and acerbic, clever lyrics can be felt in many of today’s young bands (like Bloc Party, Futureheads, and Franz Ferdinand). Now it’s time to show them who’s boss with their twelfth studio album Red Barked Tree.
Featuring Wire’s core trio of Colin Newman, Graham Lewis and Robert Grey augmented by new live guitarist Matt Simms, the new album bites with a more focused, accessible, and powerfully poignant recordings since their inception in the late 70s. They blend traditional and electronic instruments seamlessly; stripping them respectfully of all stereotypical application with more shoegazer guitars than we’ve heard them pluck in previous efforts. The new album is nothing short but amazing, and continues to offer songs that are both brawny and tender to the touch.
Red Barked Tree is set for release on 10th Jan (UK) and the 11th Jan (USA). They will embard on a short North American tour this April starting in Toronto, Ontario in April. Check out more dates below, plus grab your free download of “Two Minutes” — which, yes, is almost exactly two minutes long.
